Emma reinstall 2018-05

Severe issues have been identified with the previous instructions, thus these have now been updated. It is important that the old Emma uninstall is done prior to the new Emma installation. Users that have done the old Emma uninstall after the new Emma installation unfortunately need to redo the procedure according to the below updated instructions. We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience caused by this.

Background

In order to improve the security posture the Emma application is being changed such that it will no longer require Windows admin access. As part of this change a reinstallation of the Emma application will be required.

Roll-out Phases

  • May 14th - A new installer will be made available.
  • May 28th - The old Emma installations* will expire.
  • May 28th to June 19th - It will no longer be possible to identify/update phones in the old Emma installations*, only export of local services will be supported.
  • June 19th - The old Emma installations* will no longer start. The Emma appliation is no longer run as administrator.


(*) old Emma installations means installed via an installer of version 2.18.5 or older.

Reinstallation

A reinstallation of Emma is needed in order for Emma to continue to function after May 28th. The recommendation is to perform below actions as soon as possible after May 14th.
  1. Uninstall the old Emma by running the uninst.exe uninstaller located in the installation directory of the old Emma installation. If you did the installation of your old Emma to the default location you will find it under:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Mobile\Emma".
  2. Install Emma using the new Installer.

Reinstallation + Migration of already downloaded services

A reinstallation of Emma is needed in order for Emma to continue to function after May 28th. The recommendation is to perform below actions as soon as possible after May 14th.
  1. Start the old Emma installation.
  2. Export the local services that you want to keep. Please see the "Manage Local Services" section in the Emma User Guide for information on how to do this.
  3. Uninstall the old Emma by running the uninst.exe uninstaller located in the installation directory of the old Emma installation. If you did the installation of your old Emma to the default location you will find it under:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Mobile\Emma".
  4. Install Emma using the new Installer.
  5. Start the new Emma installation.
  6. Import the previously exported local services into the new Emma installation. Please see the "Manage Local Services" section in the Emma User Guide for information on how to do this.
